Cash incentives for Plus Two toppers hiked

PERFORMERS: Plus Two toppers who received cash awards from Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi at the Secretariat in Chennai on Monday.

Earlier, the first rank holder in the State was provided Rs. 15,000, which has been hiked to Rs. 50,000; the second rank holder was awarded Rs. 12,000 and this has been raised to Rs. 30,000. The third rank holder in the State will get Rs. 20,000 from this year against Rs. 10,000 earlier, the Chief Minister announced.
He distributed Rs. 3.40 lakh to State rank-holders in the Plus Two examinations.

An official release said that this year B.Ramesh of Bharath Montessori Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Elanji, Tenkasi; Vijayamangalam Bharathi Matriculation Higher Secondary School student M.Lingeshwaran; Sri Vidya Mandir Matricualtion Higher Secondary School student K.C.Sinju and A.Praveen of Cheran Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Karur, received Rs. 50,000 each. Two students who got the second rank at the State level received Rs. 30,000 each and four students who got third rank at the State level received Rs. 20,000 each.

The Chief Minister also distributed a note to the students, which stated that wherever they pursued their education the State government would bear the expenses.
Annually, about 100 students received such scholarships from the Government.
Thangam Thennarasu, School Education Minister, M.Kutralingam, Secretary, School Eudcation, and P.Perumalsamy, School Education Director, were present.
